Year Two 57/365 : Happy Thanksgiving!

Today was a great day! Andy and I both took today and tomorrow off from work. The turkey turned out wonderfully and everything else was equally yummy.

As you can see below the pies turned out perfect and I even made a delicious cheese ball so that we could eat on it while the turkey cooked.

My plate is on the left and Andy's on the right. As you can see I prefer corn to green beans and he likes to have gravy all over his food... eeewwww... Also we have only just found out about tiger bread/rolls, they are quite good. Of course if we were in the US I would be having Crescent rolls or King Hawaiian rolls but these will do.

Now I am stuffed!

Year Two 56/365 : From Scratch

So... apparently they do not sell pre-made pie crusts in England. Not the kind that you can roll out to use and not the kind that you would find in the frozen food section. Zip. Zero. Zilch.

So I had to resort to making my own... from scratch.

The above mess was made even with wax paper that I had put down to roll the dough out on. Hopefully the Pumpkin and Pecan Pies taste better than this mess looks!

I now have four days off from work, tomorrow is Thanksgiving... great times!

Year Two 32/365 : Casualties

No Trick or Treaters means that we have to eat all of the chocolate that was left behind... To be honest I would rather have been able to hand it out to cute little kids in costumes.

On the brighter side I baked the pumpkin seeds today and they are yummy... yummy... YUMMY!

Year Two 31/365 : Happy Halloween (American Style)

Here are our Halloween pumpkins this year! I am very glad I brought some pumpkin carving templates with us in the move because you can not buy them over here. Although I was pretty popular at work because of them! There were quite a few people that made copies for their own pumpkins. Which made me happy as it was a way for me to pass on my American Halloween vibe! It will be my mission to get every man, woman and child to celebrate Halloween as we do in the good old U. S. of A.

This was my open invitation to trick or treaters but as the same as last year... nobody came! Ugh.

This is Andy's evil Gargoyle!

I think this is a cute little ghost in a graveyard but Andy says it looks like a goalie ghost trying to save a penalty!

I am also happy to report that the pumpkin seeds have been washed and are now drying so that I can bake them tomorrow. Yummy!

[Side Note: You may notice that I added the tag 'Holiday Non UK' because to me it is just not the same as in the US, but as I mentioned above I am on a mission.]

277/365 : Happy Birthday America!

Cheeseburgers, Potato Salad and Baked Beans... Perfect 4th of July food. Yummy! I also made a homemade cheesecake but you don't get a picture of that until tomorrow.

Didn't really do much today to be honest. We left the alarm off and ended up sleeping until 11:00am! That is way late for me. Spent sometime making the cheesecake and the other foods, caught up on Eastenders and Coronation Street, ate and then watched Big Brother.

At around 10:30pm we heard some fireworks going off but after looking thru all of the windows we could not determine exactly where they were coming from. Maybe there is another American around me somewhere?

259/365 : New Home... New Traditions

I was wondering what I was going to get up to on July 4th since there will be no fireworks to attend... looks like it will be the Blackrod Scarecrow Festival.

Andy pointed this sign out to me on our way into work this morning. I have done a little research online and have found out that there are many different scarecrows on show down the main road in Blackrod. Will have to give this a go to see all of the creativity.

Since they set fireworks off here on November 5th I will have to remember this year to buy some to put away for July 4th. I do still plan on BBQ'ing out though, can't go without that!

217/365 : Cinco De Ma... Oh Nevermind

Having lived for 3 years and 9 months (not that I was counting) in Texas, Cinco De Mayo was a huge celebration! Here in the UK... yep you guessed it... nothing. Not even the people at work knew what I was talking about. Well for those of you not in the know here is a little background on the Mexican celebration that has actually become a larger celebration in the US then in Mexico.

Cinco De Mayo

Andy and I went to go see two movies tonight. First it was 'Wolverine' which was GREAT and then we saw 'I Love You Man' which was very funny. I love that we get to go see so many movies and that Cineworld pass that we have is well worth it. Just noticed tonight that a movie is £6.50 to see! That is crazy money. Our Cineworld pass is only £13.50 a month and you can go see as many movies as you want as many times as you want. We would not be going if he were having to pay full price that is for sure.
